BEGEP - New Approaches in STEM Education Training

Dr. Lecturer Firdevs İclal KARATAŞ AYDIN, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics and Science Education at the Faculty of Education, conducted training sessions titled "New Approaches in STEM Education" in Ankara, Trabzon, Samsun, Istanbul, Konya, and Diyarbakır as part of the Inclusive Education Development Project (BEGEP), jointly funded by the European Union and the Republic of Turkey and implemented by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Turkey. The STEM training, consisting of 5 modules: “Design Thinking”, “Coding”, “Inquiry-Based STEM Education”, “Industry 4.0”, and “Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning Technologies”, aimed to equip participants with knowledge and skills such as STEM teaching, evidence-based decision-making, information literacy, information and communication technology literacy, metacognition in problem-solving, creativity, and innovation. Planned with the 21st-century competencies and project-based learning skills that BİLSEM (Science and Art Centers for Gifted Children) teachers should possess in mind, the project provided STEM training to approximately 900 BİLSEM teachers working in 12 pilot provinces. The training was conducted by Dr. Lecturer Firdevs İclal KARATAŞ AYDIN ​​in Ankara on November 28-December 2, December 5-9, and December 26-30, 2022; in Trabzon on March 6-10, 2023; and on September 4-8. A total of 104 teachers from various disciplines participated in STEM trainings held in Samsun (2023), Konya (September 11-15, 2023), Diyarbakır (November 27-December 1, 2023), and Istanbul (December 11-15, 2023), divided into 8 groups.
