An Interview on Anxiety About the Future and Exam Stress

On May 6, 2025, a discussion titled "Future Anxiety and Exam Stress" was held for fourth-year mathematics teacher candidates in the Primary School Mathematics Teacher Training program at Giresun University's Department of Mathematics Education, moderated by Prof. Dr. Cemalettin YILDIZ and presented by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent YAYCI in the Faculty of Education's Black Sea Conference Hall. In this discussion, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Levent YAYCI addressed the topics of "future anxiety" and "exam stress" separately. In his presentation, Yayci first emphasized that the stress caused by exam pressure and uncertainty throughout the educational process is a natural and manageable process for students. He noted that anxieties related to processes such as the ALES exam and graduate school applications negatively affect students' decision-making mechanisms. Furthermore, Yayci stated that in the institutions where he previously worked, students who put in extra effort were placed in very good positions after graduation, indicating that effort does not go unrewarded. In her speech, Yaycı also drew attention to the importance of personal discipline, sharing that she had created a chart of her daily principles and hung it in her office, thus ensuring she remained focused on her goals. This event motivated prospective mathematics teachers, particularly in building their careers, and helped them realize the need to make clearer plans for the future. Furthermore, the prospective teachers gained a deeper understanding of the connection between personal discipline, habits, and success.
